That wraps it up. Jamaica
Tallawahs open their campaign with a win while St Kitts and Nevis
Patriots suffer their second defeat in two games. Keep watching this
space for more action from the CPL. Cheers and ta-ta!
"Pleased,
I have been working hard. Good to see my training coming out. The track
is on the slow side. I kept it simple, bowled the slower balls and
cutters. It was critical to pick Hodge at that time and I am happy to
pick him up. I did what the captain asked. The dressing room is feeling
good. It's good to share it with Steyn, Sangakkara and Shakib. They
share stuff about how they do it on the field. I will give it to my dad
(the bottle of champagne), I don't really drink (chuckles)," says Kesrick Williams who's the Man of the Match
Gayle:
"Happy to start with a win. Great team effort. Russell played well in
the end. Steyn was fantastic and spinners played a brilliant role as
well. I think 153 was always a good total on this wicket because the old
ball was holding in the pitch. I knew my spinners were going to play a
part. I think the bowlers kept their composure and they will only get
better, once they get over the nerves. They couldn't ask for a better
captain to lead them.. Chris Gayle is the best captain. I am feeling
stiff and I'm struggling. We will see what happens."
Faf du Plessis:
"Not great. T20 is about momentum and we are not on the right side of
it. We are playing at 60-70 percent. That was a par score and we needed a
guy to anchor the innings. A couple of 20s don't help. I don't think
home and away makes such a difference, all of us are foreigners anyway. I
have never played two days in a row but it's a quality team and a
quality competition. We don't want to be predictable as a bowling unit."
With
30 runs needed off the last over, a big win by T20 standards beckoned
until Devon Thomas went berserk with a hat-trick of sixes to narrow the
defeat margin for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. 3 wickets from Kesrick
Williams, his best figures ever, did well to keep speed-breaking the
momentum every time a revival threatened. Faf du Plessis's run-a-ball
fight perished to a carom ball and Hodge - the banked-on finisher -
underwhelmed to bury any hopes. Gayle-powered total of 153 was always
going to be a challenge on a slow pitch and it did prove to be one. Had
to be tough with Steyn having a good-ish day with the ball.
